I. THE PROBLEM "Adultery is a trap. .

" Pr. 22:14 (GN) 'Keep watch, and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. Matt. 26:41 (GN)

What causes affairs?


Temptation comes from the lure of our own evil desires These evil desires lead to evil actions, and evil actions lead to death.' James 1:14

Step One: Accepting sinful thoughts in your mind.

Step Two: Non-physical, emotional involvement.

Step Three: Physical involvement.

Step Four: Rationalize the affair


1) Acknowledge The sin.

"Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot but the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my shameful deeds -hey haunt me day and night. Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight." Psalm 51:1-4 (NLT)

2) End the relationship Immediately.

"Today you must listen to his voice. Don't harden your hearts against him..." Heb 3:15 (NLT)

3) Do whatever it takes to avoid ALL contact with that person from now on.

"But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it." 1 Cor. 10: 1 3 (NLT)


1) Make a commitment to God's Standard of Morality

"How can a .young person stay pure? By obeying your Word and following its rules" Ps. 119: 9 (NLT)

"Close your heart to every love but mine; hold no one in your arms but me." Song of Sol. 8:6 (GN) 2) Maintain your marriage

"Do not cheat each other of normal sexual intercourse ... or you will expose yourselves to the obvious temptation of Satan." Cor. 7:5 (PH)

"Drink water from your own welt-share ' your love only with your wife ... Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you... Let her breasts satisfy you always. May you always be captivated by her love.' Pr. 5:15, 18, 19 (NLT)

3) Manage your mind

"Run from anything that stimulates youthful lust. follow anything that makes you want to do right. Pursue faith and love and peace, and enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts."2 Timothy 2:22 (NLT)

"Don't think about how to gratify the desires of your sinful nature." Rom 13:14

4) Minimize the opportunity

"Don't be so naive and self -confident You're not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else." Cor. 10: 1 2 (The Message)

"Keep watch and pray that you fall not into temptation." Mt. 26:41

"Bad company corrupts good character." 1 Cor. 15:33

5) Maintain proper relationships.

"But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality…" Eph. 5:3

6) Magnify the consequences. "The man who commits adultery is an utter fool, for he destroys his own soul.' Pr. 6:32

"This is God's will for you; He wants you to be holy and completely free from immorality ...The Lord will punish those who do such wrongs." 1 Th. 4:3+6 (GN)
